Unidified gunmen killed 14 people in a vehicle, returning from a weekly market in Bokocos, Central Nigeria. The attack took place around noon on Thursday, and the victims include women and children, according to local residents and a red cross officer, who spoke AFP,
Bocos Cultural Development Forum President Pharmosum Fudang said that the vehicle had stopped and set fire by the attackers.
“Victims, including women and small infants,” Fadung said in a statement.
Red Cross Officer, Nooruddin Hussaini Magji confirmed the death on Friday morning. “Among the dead were men, female and children,” said.
Local people ask for more security in the plateau state
The central plateau has increased violent conflicts in the region of the state for years. Land in rural areas used by farmers and flocks is limited and the center of fatal comment by armed gangs.
The government’s presence in the region is rare, and in recent years conflicts have killed hundreds of people. After Thursday’s attack, there were calls for strong security.
After Thursday shooting, two people were killed in a revenge attack. “The victim youths have taken a Phulani township close to the place where they were ambushed,” told AFP, a local businessman Shanono Usman told AFP.
Police in the plateau state did not comment on the attack.
