US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that both Cambodia and Thailand want an immediate ceasefire, as the fatal fight between the two neighbors entered the third day.
In an attempt to end the conflict, Trump said he spoke to Cambodian leader Hun Manet and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Fummattha Vichayachai.
“After talking to both sides, ceasefire, peace and prosperity seems a natural. We will see!” Trump posted on social media during a visit to Scotland.
Trump did not give any information about the ceasefire talks, in which he said that Thailand and Cambodia agreed.
Hey warned that if he is still fighting, he will not move forward on the business deal with Ether Country.
“When everything is done, and peace is in hand, I am eager to finish our business agreements with both!” Trump said.
Call for a ceasefire and dialogue
Officials of Thailand and Cambodia did not immediately confirm the completion of any plan.
Earlier on Saturday, Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangimpongong said that his country has agreed to the ASEAN’s ceasefire proposal, but he insisted that “Cambodia should first show enmity and honesty.”
Maris said at a press conference in Bangkok, “I urge Cambodia to violate the Thai sovereignty and return to resolve the issue through bilateral dialogue.”
His comments immediately held the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on Friday.
After the meeting, the United Nations Ambassador to Cambodia said six KOs that his country “asked for a immediate ceasefire – unconditional – and we ask for a peaceful solution to the dispute.”
The battle erupted on Thursday, the two countries convicted another for the first firing.
At least 33 people have been killed and more than 130,000 people have been displaced in the worst fight between Southeast Asian neighbors in 13 years.
Why are Thailand and Cambodia fighting?
For decades, two Southeast Asian neighbors have participated in the jurisdiction of different unwarded points along the land range of 800 km (500 mi).
Central Thailand is owned by the 11th -century Preh Vihier Temple or Khao Fra Viharan for controversies.
The International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that Preh Vihear belonged to Cambodia. Thailand never recognized the jurisdiction of the court and preferred an bilateral approach.
Tension increased in 2008 after Cambodia tried to list UNESCO as the World Heritage Site.
In 2011, Cambodia returned to court after several clashes between its army and the Thai forces. The court again ruled in favor of Cambodia in 2013.
This year, tension again increased after the Thai and Cambodian soldiers confront Latli, with a Cambodian soldier in late May.
