Skin cancer, each year more than 300,000 new cases are diagnosed, are prevented. And yet cases continue to increase, especially in the world region where the number has been low first.
Along with directly avoiding sunlight, effective sunscreen products are available for years, wearing hot-sleeved shirts and pants in the form of pants. But as Genoin worries about the product safety mixture with myths and lies in social media and other places, some people may move away from the products that prevent the thesis.
“Most import things I always want to emphasize in any research, I have the importance of using [sunscreen]Richard Blackburn said, Leeds and Kerakol Limited, a material scientist at the University of UK, who research and develop new sunscreen and skin products.
“We should be concerned about skin, skin damage, DNA damage, skin aging, so the use of a sunscreen, if you are going to be out, is really, really important.”
Ultraviolet damage skin
Ultraviolet (UV) light is emitted by the sun, enters the atmosphere of the Earth and reaches the surface. And it is dangerous.
“UV damages all living things,” Antony Young said, a photobiologist at King’s College London, UK.
UV is invisible, but this harm causes damage to humans when it is absorbed by the skin it is clear. Even a short -term risk for sunlight due to less sunlight than hours.
There are two types of UV light: UVA and UVB.
Uva is a long wavelength form of ultraviolet and reaches deep layers of the skin. UVB usually enters the layers of the outer skin, discovers as the epidermis, and is the main cause of sunburn.
Even people with dark skin need to be careful with UV. While natural pigmentation can provide a temporary guard against ultraviolet light, the skin is skin, and damage may occur even after extensive risk.
There are two types of sunscreen
In the 20th century, sunscreen were developed to reduce the damage caused by UV. They have many materials, but are usually divided into two categories based on their active property.
One of these is “chemical” sunscreen. But scientists are trying to get away from that description, because after all, everything on our planet is made of chemicals.
The word they like is “organic sunscreen” because they contain carbon-based active ingredients. Thesis absorbs the molecule and reduces UV rays when they kill the skin, which helps prevent sunburn.
The other category is sometimes called “physical” or “natural” sunscreen. These are also active ingredients in these, but they are not carbon-based. Instead, thesis uses titanium or zinc oxide particles to provide a physical filter.
Both absorb Sunscreens UV and prevent the skin from painting and damaging the skin. Radiation is released as heat.
While no sunscreen filters 100% of UV, they are important in blocking an overwell amount. Suncreens is rated using a protective factor label, abbreviated to “SPF” or “UPF”, shows how much filtering the UV is.
SPF15, for example, removes 93% of UVB radiation; SPF30 Filter 97%, and SPF50 Filter 98%.
Sunscreen is a moment in the spotlight
Health Authority is vocal about the importance of using sunscreen, and general sun protection, to prevent skin damage and reduce the rate of skin cancer.
But thesis messages are therefore competing with claims, which have been operated on social media, that sunscreen can do more damage than well. Some of these are false incorrect data.
However, there are such appropriate concerns about the safety profile of some chemicals that have been used in sunscreen for years. While the thesis is considered normal, some prolonged substances such as oxybenzone, advengeon and octinoxet have been detected in the bloodstream, and may break into toxic compounds.
Questions scientists – and health regulators – are asking if these toxins are sufficient for a danger?
“What does Cain mean,” said Young. “This is true with concerns about sunscreen pollution in the oceans. The trouble is done with a lot of poisoning study dose that are not going to be received, or [are] It is very difficult to achieve. ,
Other recommendations of dermatologists and researchers have to avoid expiry dates, storage status for consumers, and to avoid mixing different sunscreen at the same time. This included cosmetics that have an SPF rating.
Blackburn research It has been shown that applying two different types of sunscreen products can reduce their protective benefits.
“We found that it can really reverse the whole process by combining those people [different sunscreens] Together, and it’s very counter -entitative, “Blackburn said” You will almost think that you are layering and layering and you get better [protection]This is not the case. ,
Do-it-sunscreen is risky
Then there are so-called natural sunscreen that swap some lab-mag-made molecules for a naturally derived component.
Beef fats, commonly called Tallo, have been marketed as a product, while some homemade dishes and online blogs are at the point point to provide naturally derived oils and even some complementary protection.
But the SPF of these materials is usually negligible. Products marketed as “natural” usually contain chemicals such as zinc or titanium oxide to provide adequate protection.
Do-this sunscreen against Young Warne.
“Thesis about homemade efforts is that you cannot test them.
The future of sunscreen can be plant based
While most sunscreen chemicals, whether the skin saved carbon compounds or zinc are the standard of current gold for SPF, scientific scientists find new chemicals in nature.
Like many pharmaceuticals, chemical compounds developed by plants, fungi and other animals can be exploited to provide health benefits.
“There are natural chemicals that have the ability to be protective,” Young said, “and especially plants produce chemicals to protect their DNA.”
Labs run by Blackburn are trying to identify, separate and produce search chemical compounds for use in sunscreen. This can reduce dependence on lab cinematoids in future sunscreen, although in places such as the US, the woldle requires regulatory approval.
“Everything is chemistry,” Blackburn said. “If we can understand from a chemical level and a mechanical point of view, we can make real improvements [sunscreen]Look … plants that can provide the same task. ,
