Mosque demolition near German Council Order Stuttgart – DW – 07/30/2025

The city council of the city of Leenfelden-Achardingon near Stutgart in South-Western German state of Baden-Vurtambarg ordered the demolition of the entire mosque.

In the majority vote, the council said that the Cologne-based Islamic Association built the mosque, to tear it by the end of the year at its expense.

The Association of Islamic Culture Centers (VikZ) was empowered to build a Leinfeld-Accepting Masjid in 2014.

However, the association was told that the building was to be completed within four years, an oblivion that failed to complete it.

When Wikz increased the contractual range, authorities in Leenfelden-Activardingon took legal steps to cancel their building permits.

The council pledge to help find new site for the mosque

In January 2024, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany launched a legal battle to rule in favor of municipal authorities.

When further things failed to solve the situation, the council ordered to tear the building.

Although the Council voted to help the Islamic Association find an alternative site for a new mosque, Vikz said that it would not tear the Leenfelden-Athradingen Building.

“We cannot consider the demolition of the mosque, in line with our local association in Leenfelden-Achardingen, the Association of Islamic Culture Centers (Wikz),” we cannot consider the demolition of the mosque. We cannot and will not do. ” Stutgart News Newspaper.

Mayor Otto Rooppanner told the paper that the city was only implementing the terms of the original contract and if necessary he was “ready to take the case to court”.
