Strict liquid boundaries for air travel items may soon be history in the European Union, as the new scanner capable of detecting liquid explosives receive official approval.
Currently, air passengers are limited to carrying fluids in containers of no more than 100 ml, but technology may begin the end to one of the most dislikes of air travel.
Why is liquid rules relaxed?
Scanners use medical grade whistle imaging, providing high-resolution 3D visuals that allow security staff to check the contents of the lining by layer without slowing the screening process. They can detect both solid and liquid explosives.
A spokesman for the European Union Commission told the DPA news agency that technology now allows airports to raise the rules. But it lasts to each hub as to what to apply and when the change has to be implemented.
Rules will not be immediately relaxed, most airports are not equipped with technology. However, the German Airports Association (ADV) told the AFP news agency that air passengers at some airports in Germany may be able to carry two liters of fluids in their hand goods.
“This is more and more convenience and a major step towards fast processes at airports,” Adv Chief Executive Ralph Basel said, “Safe and reliable”.
Mouahhile, most German air travelers will have to wait. A mixture of old and new devices, incompatible software readiness, and inability to inform passengers in advance that scanner will be used, which means passengers should continue sticking to previous rules. The item should still be placed in a plastic bag of up to one liter.
The original 100 ml liquid regulations have often confused passengers – especially when introduced for the first time – with unclear guidelines, disappointment on inconsistent enforcement and what is allowed.
Does airports already have a scanner?
Germany’s largest airport in Frankfurt has installed new scanners at 40 of its around 190 screening lanes, with 40 more equipment orders. But for now, no policy changes have been made due to uncertainty about scanner assignments for individual passengers.
In Munich, the second largest hub in Germany, the scanner is already available in large numbers, but according to a government spokes, the software upgrade required to avoid disrupting the summer travel season will be postponed. Therefore, liquid restrictions remain, especially traditional techniques in lanes.
The European Union Commission says that about 700 21 of the CT-based scanners are being used or established at airports in European Union countries. The liquid rule was introduced in 2006, with a failed terrorist conspiracy incorporating the use of liquid explosives in an aircraft.
The CT scanner has a bee for years and was already used to perfect liquid containers on time. However, his credibility was suspected last year, inspired the European Union to make additional testing mandatory.
