Is a rival government dividing the country into two? – DW – 08/01/2025

One step appears close to the war -torn Sudan break. In the last weekend, a Sudani coalition led by Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced the establishment of a rival government in Darfur.

The announcement was widely expected after the RSF – which holds almost all the Darfur region and parts of the south – and other armed groups formed the Sudan found in March. At that time, the coalition stated that it would establish a “government of peace and unity” in the region under its control.

But now, as the newly formed “transitional peace government” with RSF leader General Mohammad Hamdan Daglo, the President claims that all of Sudan has jurisdiction.

In a statement, Tasis said it was common “to build[ing] An inclusive motherland and a new, secular, democratic, decentralized and voluntary integrated Sudan found on the principles of freedom, justice and equality. ,

African Union, condemned from United Nations

Unexpectedly, under the leadership of international recognized government General Abdel-Fatah Bahan and Prime Minister Kamil al-Taib Idris-Hu, the capital controls the Khartum, the north, east and center of the country as well as the country, the country rapidly dismissed the rival administration as “artificial construction” and “illegitimate entity”.

The African Union, along with its 55 member states, said it would not recognize the “so -called parallel government” in Sudan.

AU reported that the establishment of the new government is “serious about peace efforts and future of the existence of the country.”

Similarly, the United Nations warned that the existence of the new administration may deepen the fragmentation of Sudan and complicate diplomatic efforts to end the war in Sudan.

The war began in April 2023 when Sudan’s army chief Burhan and RSF’s Dagalo included the Sudani Armed Forces, or the RSF in the SAF.

RSF’s goal ‘To force yourself into international discussions’

“By announcing a government structure, the RSF is trying to force itself into international discussions, not as a militia, but as a political stakeholder with the Governing Authority,” said the Sudani Think Tank Ficra’s Amgad Ferred Aleb said.

He said, “There is a careful timed and depth political maneuver with the results far and wide for the story on legitimacy, governance and international engagement in the horrors of Sudan,” he told DW.

In his view, the announcement was clearly timed before a planned meeting of the United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. The representative of those four countries expected a political dialogue to start Sudan’s army and paramilitary RSF to issue a joint statement to end hostility and to eliminate enmity.

Fuel was given by external actors

But the meeting was originally planned at the end of July, which was canceled in a short notice. A new date is yet to be determined with some diplomats, suggesting that it can be re -determined for September.

A diplomatic source told news agency AFP, “UAE made a final minute change to include Sudan’s future infectional process for the Do The Army and RSF.”

Amgad Farid Altayeb, who previously served as Assistant Head of Abdullah Hamdok, former Prime Minister of Sudani, and as a political advisor to the United Nations Special Mission in Sudan, believes that the UAE added the condition as a realcap real about democratic or civil infection in Sudan. ,

Many other observers agree that the war in Sudan continues by international actors.

Amgad Farid Alid Altayeb said, “The increasing evidence of Emirati’s participation in Arming and financing has kept Abu Dhabi in a rapidly uncomfortable position.”

The UAE has been widely accused of handling the RSF, although Abu Dhabi has reduced the search allegations. It is despite several reports from United Nations experts, diplomats, American politicians and international organizations.

One of the fiery supporters of SAF, Cairo, according to the same source talking to AFP, is called the last-win stipend “completely unacceptable”.

Intensive fight increases serious human condition

The rival administration in Darfur is established during the rapid fight in Central and South Sudan. None of this mantra does not expect any improvement to end the war or for any improvement for the world’s largest human and displacement crisis.

For this week’s report by the United Nations Refugee Agency, “Sudan Sion is now forced 12.0 million due to the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, including 7.7 million internal and 4.1 million in neighboring countries.”

International bodies estimate that the death toll has crossed 150,000 people.

On Wednesday, the United Nations office for the coordination of human affairs raised an alarm on the increasing toll of hunger, disease and displacement in various conflict parts of Sudan. Both sides of the war are approved for war crimes.

Earlier this year, the US accused RSF of massacre of General Dagalo, as well as serious human rights violations. Under General Burhan, SAF has been accused of decreasing the target of deadly attacks against citizens and a democratic infection.

In the Africa Division of Human Rights Watch, Sudan researcher Mohammad Usman said, “Both sides are obliged to assist the population in their control for conflict, including permission for Humanitrian Access.”

He said, “Most of the Darfur where RSF is under control and where they have established their own government, the RSF has shown very little relationship for human life and provided assistance.”

This observation is echoed by Amgad Fred Altaib. “In areas under its domination, RSF has not established orders, justice or public services, but resumed systematic sexual violence, genocide, looting and infrastructure, the characteristic of the devastation of destruction,” Hey said.
