- America imposed 25% tariff on India
- America angry over oil purchases from Russia
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the purchase of Russian oil from India is helping to maintain Moscow’s war efforts in Ukraine and it is definitely a ‘subject of irritation’ in New Delhi’s relations with Washington. Both these statements came when US President Donald Trump suddenly announced on Wednesday that 25% tariffs would be imposed on all goods coming from India from August 1.
India is not ready on what
According to reports, India is ready for trade deal. But he has pulled a red line, which he will not let America cross. This redline has been called to save the farmers of the country. In fact, India is not ready to give exemption to imports of maize, soybean, dairy and almonds, which proved to be a major hurdle in business talks. Indian dialogues have clearly prepared a line on American demands to allow unruly access to Indian markets. Farmers unions had also repeatedly warned the government regarding any such agreement with the US, which allows imports to be allowed.
America imposed tariff on India
There has been a new twist in business relations between India and America. US President Donald Trump suddenly announced on Wednesday that 25% tariffs would be imposed on all goods coming from India from August 1. Not only this, it has also been said to install a separate ‘penalty’ from India on buying crude oil and military equipment from Russia. Just a day after this decision, US Finance Minister Scott Besent said in an interview to CNBC in New York, “Trump and the entire trade team about India is very desperate.”
What did US Secretary of State say?
External Affairs Minister Marco Rubio said, ‘India is our strategic partner, but it is not possible to have 100% consensus on every issue.’ He admitted that India’s energy needs are very big and buying oil from Russia is also his financial compulsion because oil is getting cheaper from there. He further said, ‘It is disappointing that even when there are so many oil options in the world, India still shops in such a large amount from Russia. This is helping Russia to continue the war.
