Chile State-Down Mining Codelco said on Saturday that its L Tenant had found a stranded mine’s remains in the copper mine.
More than 100 rescue teams are participating in an operation to find five stranded miners on the site in Rankagua, located south of the capital Santiago in Central Chile. The El Tenant mine fell partially on Thursday after the “seismic incident” in the area, killing the shocks.
What did Kodelco say?
Andres Music, General Manager of L. Tenant, said the discovery of the dead minein “hurts us deeply.” Music said Kodelco will continue his defense efforts with “Shakti and Asha”.
Kodelco said that the identity of the deceased minein has not yet been identified.
Rescuers are moving away as 1.200 m (3.900 ft) to find stranded miners. Normal mining operations have been suspended in the El Tenant between the search.
Chilean President Borik meets families of trapped people
Chile’s President Gabriel Borik met on Saturday with the relationship with the trapped miners. Hey said that Kodelco is “all resources, experiences and technology” to carry forward the trapped miners.
In a video posted on X, Borik said, “The thesis for families and loved ones in difficult hours, all efforts are focused on rescue operations for five stranded miners.”
The partial collapse of the El Tenant mine was triggered by an earthquake of 4.2 intensity, killing one person and injuring nine others. It is not clear whether the earthquake was due to natural forces or due to mining activity.
Chile’s copper industry is important for its economy and government revenue, serving the world’s largest copper with the South American nation.
