America’s submarine strength
The US has 71 submarines, including 14 Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBN), which can carry 24 Trident II D5 missiles. Each missile can carry several thermonuclear warheads, whose range is 7,400 km. Apart from this, Virginia and Los Angeles-Class Fast-Atac submarines are equipped with stealth, advanced sonar and Tomahawk missiles. America’s global alliance and technical superiority gives it an edge in maritime war.
Russia has about 58 submarines, including Bori-A (Project 955A) and Yasen-M class. Bori-e-submarine is equipped with calls, which can carry an 8,000 km range and multiple warheads. Yasen-M submarines are equipped with Zirkon hypersonic missiles and advanced sonar. Russia has modernized its submarine fleet since the 1990s and Sevamash Shipyard is making 1-2 new submarines every year.
Comparison and strategy
America is ahead in submarine numbers and global deployment but Russia’s technology is growing rapidly. Yasen-M submarines are considered equal to Virginia-Class. Russia’s “Dead Hand” system gives an automatic nuclear counter -attack capacity, which is scary from a strategic point of view. However, America’s stealth and coalition support gives it a strategic lead.
Trump-Membevedev dispute
Trump’s move is part of the strategy to pressurize Russia in Ukraine War. Medvedev called Trump’s 10-day ceasefire ultimatum a “step towards war”. Russian MP Victor Vodolatski claimed that Russia’s submarines are monitoring American submarines. Trump’s announcement of submarine deployment is a strategic message, which warns Russia. America’s technical and numerical superiority makes it strong in the sea, but Russia’s modernization speed and nuclear strategy cannot be ignored. This stress is a threat to global stability.
