Officials said on Sunday that four workers had died in Japan after falling into the manhole while inspecting the sewage pipe.
Workers, all in their half -century, were checking the pipe in the city of Gaida on Saturday. The local fire department told the AFP news agency that when the manhole dropped for an unknown reason, three others tried to save him, which was finally falling.
Local media reported that the workers were again rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead.
Four deceased sewage pipes were among at least seven workers on the site as part of a nationwide survey. At the request, they were ordered to clean the pipe.
Why did the workers fall?
The fire department stated that the rescue team detected a toxic gas in hydrogen sulfide, high concentrations, coming out of manhole.
Local law enforcement said that gas was detected, Japan Times Reported, saying that he suspected that the workers might have breathed it.
The city has not yet confirmed this.
An official of Gyoda City, on the condition of anonymity to the AFP, told, “The leading circumstances for the accident are still unknown, so it is very early for us to say anything about our responsibility.”
