Given that the Football World Cup was in the country only three years ago, the country hosted this year’s eight major championships, and the Qatar bid for the 2036 Olympics in the 2030 Asian Games looks like the next logical Gulf country.
The difference around this time is about all scale. The show will have 36 games in Los Angeles in 2028, with a variety of subjects inside each game. Then is the political aspect of an Olympic Games, which is different from a football World Cup.
Nevertheless, Public Management Professor Jean-Lup Chaplt at Lausen and Olympic Scholar University believes that the history of Qatar’s hosting means that they are very capable of hosting a Summer Olympics.
“The features are not most important for the Olympics nowadays,” Chapel told DW.
Instead, he said, there are two major criteria that have been seen in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in recent years in a host country.
“One is political support and the other is popular support. It is more import than places. In fact, places can be replaced, such as we have recently seen a lot in La (Los Angeles) and therefore in Brisbane. Political support from public authorities.”
Weather and image problematic
Given the average high temperature in Qatar in July, 44 degrees Celosis (111 Fahrenheit) are out of question to host the Olympic Games at that time of the year.
“It should be like the World Cup 2022 in November,” French said, who worked on the dialect for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville.
“Can we (she) do? It can be enough, but it is a big problem because the entire game calendar is organized around the Olympics.”
Assuming that this was possible, then there is a question of two above criteria. Given that national political support is not a problem, attention will change on popular support.
An easy way to gauge it is through a referendum, as was the hero in Germany in Germany in Germany. However, Chapel is not so uproar that he cannot see anything equally.
“In general, IOC is satisfied with elections,” he explained.
“Elections are conducted by an independent company. So they see what the popular support (level) is. The problem in Qatar is that the local population is rather small and a large migrant population.
If that support is so safe, then the issue of dealing with neighboring Saudi Arabia. If Qatar won the bid, it would prevent Saudi Arabia from hosting the Olympics for many years. But it was already confirmed to be in Saudi Arabia with the 2034 World Cup, seeing that the state would like to host the Olympics immediately after that.
Assuming that no one of these is the problem, the final barrier is the brudder effect of the IOC choosing Qatar.
“Human rights are quite important” said Chapel. “Especially for the creation of facilities, state and workers.
Despite the years of criticism, the World Cup took place in Qatar.
“It’s not disqualified,” said Chapel. “This can be done. Of course they [IOC] Will there be a lot of criticism, but the question is whether the IOC wants to criticize it all or will they take another less risky way? ,
Is there a chance in India, Korea and Indonesia?
Chappell believes that Qatar’s bid will force another in action.
“This means that they have to rebel slightly,” said Chapel. Given the heat, current doping issues and poor results in the field of competition, Chapelt believes that India is already running. The South Korea is in the mixture, but the strength of its bid depends on the result of next year’s mayor’s election in Seoul, while Chile’s probability is one for a far -off future which it will be the turn of Asia. The games should roam every season, and in North America with 2028 editions and in Oceania in 2032, 2036 Olympic Games should be held in Asia or Africa, who have never hosted.
This keeps Qatar and Indonesia in a good position, although Chaplt believes Istanbul has a strong chance.
“it [Turkey] There is a major country, and it has bid many times. It has a growing economy. Of course they have problems like many other countries, perhaps with human rights, but it is a Muslim country, which I think is an argument, “Chapel said.” The Muslim world should get a game one day. ,
The final decision after the new LAPED IOC president Kirsted Coventry was expected to delay in 2027 that IOC members wanted to join more in the selection process and were allowed for intensive review of how the previous was elected.
“IOC members had overwell support for a break, and the future hosting election process was reviewed for a break,” Coventry said.
“Members want to engage more in this process and secondly, there was a lot of discussion when he was honored with the next host and.”
