The search ends after 5 miners are found dead – DW – 08/04/2025

The fifth and last missing minor’s body was found on Sunday, a few days after the fall of a tunnel in the world’s largest copper mine in Chile.

The rescue team dug two dozen meters (78 feet) underground route to regain the bodies of the miners.

How did the miners get stuck?

On Thursday, a portion of E. 4.2 collapsed after a shock of 4.2, killing one person and injuring nine others.

After the trembling and partial collapse of the El Tanninton tunnel, which implicates five mines workers, the operation in the tunnel was suspended.

It is still unknown whether the shock was due to a natural earthquake or mining activity.

A team of 100 rescue workers tried to discover the missing miners.

The state-run mining firm Kodelco, who operates tunnels, discovered the first stranded worker and the other four on Sunday.

Kodelco President Maximo Pacheko said that the minein “what did we do wrong to test and determine international experts.
