Reality or just cropping up! Is US targeting India? This is the reality…

India US tariff: US President Donald Trump has made a big charge on India of buying oil from Russia. He said that India is buying huge amount of oil from Russia and is earning a big profit by selling it in the open market. Trump claimed that India does not mind how many people are being killed in Ukraine due to the war of Russia. He warned that heavy tariffs (fees) will be imposed on goods coming from India to America. According to Trump, these tariffs will be more than 25%.

India gave strict reply, said- Dual mindset is the west
India immediately issued a strict statement, dismissing Trump’s allegations. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Trump’s new tariff proposal is unfair and baseless. India also made it clear that America and Europe themselves are doing business from Russia – whether it is energy or essential items. India said with data that in 2024, Europe bought 67.5 billion euros and services of 17.2 billion euros from Russia. In comparison, India’s trade is much less than Russia. India clearly said that it will take every necessary steps to protect its national interests and economic security.

When Trump was asked on India’s allegations, he said- I don’t know

After India’s reply, when reporters asked Trump that America itself is buying products like uranium and fertilizer from Russia, he said- “I don’t know anything about it. I will have to check. We will answer you later.” Trump’s reply shows that he was not fully aware of India’s arguments.

Is India helping Russia’s war with money?
This question is in a lot of discussion – is India’s oil purchase is funding Russia’s war machine? The truth is that there is no such restriction on Russia oil as is on Iran or Venezuela. Rather, the G7 countries and the European Union have set a ‘price cap’ i.e. the price limit, which reduces the revenue of Russia, but the oil supply in the world remains. India buys cheap oil under this rule and does everything in a legal way.

Why is India being targeted?

The purchase of oil from Russia of India is absolutely transparent and under rules. Despite this, India is targeted, while many more countries are doing the same. Amid criticism, it often forgets that India is not alone – nor the biggest buyer. The real picture is something else.

Who is Russia’s biggest oil buyer?
Statistics from December 2022 to July 2025 show that:

  • China imports 47% of Russia’s crude oil
  • India bought 38%
  • Europe and Turkey took 6-6%
  • That is, India is definitely a big buyer, but not the biggest. And he is not alone either.
Does India also buy Russian gas?

No, India does not buy natural gas from Russia almost. On the contrary, the European Union is still buying a large amount of gas from Russia. Only in June 2025, Europe gave Russia for more than 1.2 billion euros. Countries like France, Hungary, Netherlands and Slovakia are major buyers.

Does India also take petrol and diesel prepared from Russia?
No, India does not buy refined (ready) fuel from Russia. But many more countries do this. For example Türkiye, who is a member of NATO, buys 26% refined fuel from Russia. China and Brazil are also among the big buyers.

Has India broken any rules?

No. All the purchases of India are under international trade rules. The price of oil is within the fixed limit of G7 countries. The required shipping and insurance rules are also followed for this. All this is under the structure created by legal, transparent and western countries.

What will happen if India stops buying oil?
Experts believe that if India stops buying oil from Russia, then oil prices in the global market can go above $ 200 per barrel. India’s purchases have so far helped to keep prices stable, especially for developing countries. Many US officials also believe this.

America itself has accepted the role of India

In November 2022, the US Finance Minister said that America finds it good to buy India’s oil. In the year 2024, Biden’s Energy Advisor also said that India has played an important role in keeping the market stable. In May 2024, US Ambassador Eric Garseti had said – “India delivered” i.e. India worked responsibly.

Are the Western countries doing business from Russia themselves?
Yes. Many western countries are still trade with Russia. As:

  • Europe is still sending Russia oil to Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic from the pipeline
  • Japan is allowed to buy oil from Russia by 2026
  • Britain, Canada, Norway, Switzerland and America have been exempted in the 18th ban package of the European Union.
  • That is, India did not hide anything, only the rest of the countries do not tell their point openly.
