Yuri, riding on the International Space Station (ISS), married a satellite to American bride Ekaterina Damitriev. Her bride was at the time at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas. It was the world’s first ‘space wedding’.

Yuri then boiled with his space suit, which made this opportunity even more special. At the same time, her bride Ekaterina won the hearts of everyone by wearing a traditional Ivory wedding dress in Houston. This marriage took place through satellite from NASA’s control room. According to reports, Ekaterina then told the New York Times, ‘Yuri may be in space, but the dialogue between us brought us closer. This brave shows the person who always tries to do something new.

Had to get married under compulsion!

According to a report published in Business Insider in 2019, Yuri and Ekaterina had earlier decided that they would do 200 guests on Earth. But when Yuri’s mission was extended, he decided that he would marry in a way. Ekaterina posed with Yuri’s cardboard cutout during the wedding in Houston. Yuri’s friend, an astronaut played the wedding march on the keyboard. At the video, he gave flying kiss to Yuri and Yuri sent a loving reply from the space.

Russia gave permission

Both were already in long distance. Yuri lived for space training in Russia, and Ekaterina in America. Both used to talk for hours on the phone, but when they decided to marry in space, the whole world was shocked. Russia allowed Yuri to this, but later made it clear that no other cosmonott can marry such. A few months after the wedding, in October 2003, Yuri returned to the earth and hugged his bride.
