According to preliminary information from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of regular insolvencies in Germany requested rose by 19.2 % in July 2025 compared to the same month last year. This has been the highest growth rate since October 2024 (+22.9 %). The results must be taken into account that the applications only flow into the statistics after the first decision of the insolvency court. In many cases, the actual time of the bankruptcy application is approximately three months before.
According to the final results, the district courts reported 2,036 requested corporate insolvencies. That was 5.3 % more than in May 2024. The claims from the corporate bankruptcies reported in May 2025 put the local courts at around 3.2 billion euros. In May 2024, the claims were around 3.4 billion euros.
