Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was one of the dozens of MPs detained by the police in New Delhi on Monday, after protest against alleged electoral misconduct.
Around 300 opposition parliamentians including Gandhi, marching towards the election counter headquarters, barricades jumping and shouting that the recent elections were “stolen”.
He claims that the election role in major states has been replaced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisions for the benefit of the Hindu Nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and with more.
“This fight is not political; This fight is to save the constitution,” Gandhi told reporters that he and others were taken to a nearby police station. “We want a list of a clean, pure voters.”

Monday’s performance came after a decision in the election counter after completing the massive amendment of the electoral rolls in the northern state Bihar, which the opposition says that millions of citizens may be unstable to vote.
In this process, voters need to submit official documents such as birth certificate, passport and matriculation records, which critics say that it is difficult for many people in Bihar, one of the poorest parts of India where literacy rate is the lowest in the country.

The Election Commission said that changes were required to avoid “incorporating the names of foreign illegal immigrants” – for undivided Muslims in the context of Bihar which have come from neighboring Bangladesh.
The BJP said that the opposition parties were trying to create a “situation of chaos” by sowing seeds of doubt about the election process. Federal Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “He is in a state of bankruptcy due to his continuous loss.”
