In a statement, Putin’s associate Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban refused to sign, the leaders “emphasizing Ukraine’s right to choose their fate”.
“We, the Leader of the European Union, welcome the President’s efforts to end Russia’s aggression war against Ukraine and achieve a justified and permanent peace and security for Ukraine,” a statement said.
“A justified and permanent peace that brings stability and security, should respect international law, including the principles of freedom, sovereign, regional integrity and should not be replaced by force,” it said.
The leaders said, “The path of peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine.”
European leaders have expressed disappointment over Friday’s US Russia Summit, fearing that European security is at stake between Moscow’s regional aggression and growing military buildups as a whole.
It is not clear to what extent Ukraine wants to attend the meeting.
Trump has said that both sides will be forced to the country under any country, increasing the apprehension that he may give regional concessions for Putin which are unacceptable to Kiev.
