French President Emmanuel Macron used his country “repressive violence” in Cameron during the 1950s, as West African Nation fogged for its freedom.
Last month, in a letter sent to Cameron’s counterpart Paul Biya, Macron accepted the functions of the French colonial soldiers.
The letter was made public by Macron’s office on Tuesday, and was coming at a time when France’s current appearance in its former African colonies was fought rapidly.
It comes after the official report, which was commissioned by France in 2022, which found that France used a large -scale forced placement, pushed the score of the Cameroon into the intern camp and supported the militia known for their cruelty, with the aim of fighting the country’s aspirations for independence.
French violence continued after independence
The report was compiled by a 14-person committee made of French and Cameroon historians, who saw the role of France in Cameroon between 1945 and 1971, given that the French army’s oppressive measures continued after the country’s independence in 1960.
Macron said in the letter, “The historian of the Commission made it clear that there was a war in Cameroon, during which the colonial authorities and the French army carried out a variety of repressive violence in 1960.”
“It is alert to me today to accept the role and responsibility of France in these events.”
The French President accepted the role of France in the death of Cameroon leaders Ruben Um Nob, Paul Momo, Isaac Nyobe Pandzok and Jeremy Nedleen, all of which were betting in 1958 and 1960 in the military operations of the French-Faiths.
Macron said France’s repressive measures in the fight against Cameroon’s freedom cost “said” the lives of tens of thousands of people, “Macron said.
France’s colonial heritage under investigation
Most parts of Cameron came under the French rule in World War I, after the country’s previous colonial ruler Germany, suffered defeat in the war. The rest of the country were colonized by Britain.
The report stated that Cameron began to emphasize for freedom during World War II, with France reacted with repression and violence.
This report is part of Macron’s push for France, which is to come up with its own colonial history, even though many argue that their tricks are not far away.
A report released in 2021 found that France bored the “overwelling responsibilities” in the 1994 Rwanda massacre, while a 2020 report saw France’s role during the Algeria’s independence war, ending to call for a “truth commission” and other measures.
Macron apologized for abuses by French soldiers in Algeria.
