German politician proposes membership of the European Union for Switzerland

German MLA Omid Nuripore has suggested that Switzerland may graduate a member of the European Union.

The German government told the German DPA news agency, “The German government should provide an opportunity to Switzerland to deepen cooperation until Turbo membership in the European Union.”

“If our Swiss friends want to get closer to the European Union in the light of the New Times, Germany should actively support it,” said.

US President Donald Trump has imposed a 39% tariff on imports from Switzerland, which is more than 15% tariff on most products from the European Union.

Swiss economic associations have claimed that it has put tens of thousands of jobs at risk.

With a population of 9 million, Switzerland depends heavy on exports, America is the most important market, accounting for 18% in 2024.

“For centuries, Swiss has maintained the tradition of strict neutrality,” said Nuripore. “However, a recent tariff controversy with Donald Trump suggests how weak the small states are when they are left to leave for the Amelves. Politically neutral, economically global – which no longer works in the new era.”

“From a Swiss perspective, the European Union may not be the best option, but it’s more reliable so far,” Heer said.

For now, the European Union membership is unlikely, by Switzerland’s strongest party votes, the right -wing localishly Swiss People’s Party (SVP), strictly against the perception.
