Washington, DC Attorney General Brian Shwalab on Friday filed a federal case, demanding US President Donald Trump to block the acquisition of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in the city.
The legal challenge was a few hours later as the US Attorney General Palm Bandy, named Drug Enforcement Administration Head Terry Cole as the Emergency Commissioner of the Department.
Why is the suit now?
Shwalab said that the lawsuit asks the court to rule that Trump’s action is illegal.
“The illegal action of the administration is an impressed for the dignity and autonomy of 700,000 Americans that DC calls the house,” hey said. “This is the most serious threat to the rule of the house that the district has ever encountered, and we are fighting to stop it.”
Bondi’s instructions were released on Thursday night, coal authority gives authority over the powers and duties of the police chief. He ordered that MPD should get the approval of coal before issuing any instructions.
Mayor Muril Boussar wrote that “there is no law that tells a federal officer to the district of the Personnel Authority.”
It is not clear how this step affects the policy chief Pamela Smith, who works for the mayor.
Neither Bondi’s office nor the White House immediately responded to request to comment.
What are disputed instructions?
Bondi canceled several MPD policies, allowing limited cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, including Smith’s recent instructions.
The Department of Justice said that Bondi opposed the order of the chief as it has still allowed the so -called “sanctuary policies” that prohibits the ability to assist in immigration enforcement of local law enforcement.
