Australia on Saturday gave shelter to Democracy Hong Kong activist Ted Hui, who is facing criminal allegations in the Chinese city to protest against the 2019 democracy.
In a social media post, Hui confirmed his refuge in Australia.
Hui said that her refuge application was approved by Australian Home Affairs on Friday and her family members gave visas.
Heer said in a Facebook post on Saturday, “I express my honesty for the government of Australia – both to recognize our needs for the present and pre -refuge and to provide us this protection,” Heer said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Who is the ted?
Many supporters that happened are among the democracy workers, who fled from Hong Kong after being charged with the criminal. He was targeted in 2023 by HK $ 1 million ($ 1.27 million) police bounty.
In a Facebook post, Hui urged the Australian government to do more for other Hong Kong workers, who remained in jail.
“Australia should do more to save them and speak to their humanity,” said Hui.
A major critic of China and Hong Kong officials, a former Democratic party legalist, left Hong Kong in 2020.
“When people around me call me ‘congratulations’, although I politely thank me, I can’t help, but can feel unhappy in my heart. Congratulations to a political refugee who misses his hometown?” Posted on Facebook.
“If it was not for the oppression of politics, I would never have thought of living in a foreign land. Immigrants can always return to their hometown to visit relatives at any time. The exiles have no home.”
