Anarchy on the roads that can go in the direction – DW – 08/19/2025

Following the last nine -month -long peaceful protests, the streets of Serbia resemble the battle situation on the streets of Serbia, with the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) offices. Repeat the night after night across the country with clashes, tear gas, smoking bombs and flarers between the protesters and the police.

Neda Vrabac has been on the streets for months from the assemblies of citizens in Novi Sad. She says that people are fierce and violence on the roads is only a reaction to the violence of governance.

“We went precious against the bayonets,” Vrebac told DW. “I think, personally, as other citizens, who participate in regular protests, are very upset, unsafe and unsafe, and this is the result of live under fascism, with all its manifestations.”

Confusion

Protesters on the road often do not know whether they are colliding with policy or SNS paramilitary. Video operates on social media, showing groups of young men in masks and carrying sticks running on protesters. Media reports claim that among SNS supporters, individuals were convicted for murder, violent behavior and even a former football goon leader, convicted for the 2009 murder of a French football fan.

“Authorities have declared a road on citizens, with the help of party criminals. But no gymnastics is back, things have come to one head. Citizens have felt that there is no place for the parliamentary democracy with the mafia, no interaction except hand handing over to power,” Radivoz Jovovic told free citizens.

He believes that violence on the roads is the result of government’s nervousness and inability to solve the crisis.

“The authorities are those who refused to accept the demands of protests. SNS did not believe us when ‘a patient’s wrath was destroyed,’ and now he has committed crimes that have been hurried to the end,” Jovovic said.

Police cruelty

Meanwhile, the police have started implementing violence. Citizens and media have documented several examples of police cruelty. Belgrade student Nicolina Senejelic testified that he was “slapped and slammed her head against the wall”, Commander of the Personal and Property Conservation Unit, Marco Caricak, who called her “prostitute”.

“Hey said that hey snatched me and rape me in front of everyone, that everyone will see. I was angry with sight, and he said,” You should beg to stop you from beating you, “Nicolina Sindzelic told N1 television.”

While the baton shines at night, there were large -scale arrests during the day. Several pro-governance media outlets published footage, shown to kneel against a wall, which is with his hands behind their back, each preserved by a police officer.

With the thesis images, many were reminded of images from the waiting time camps. Neda Werebac says that she knows that at least three of them were arrested by twenty -year -old children, even though they were not in protests. One of them is the Vukasin Kurilic, whose family he knows personally.

“They are from my assembly, they support everything, but are not special participants active in protests,” Neda Virback told DW. “Hey was arrested from a store on his way. He was carrying some bags, and when he contacted him, the child protested, saying that he had not done anything. Then he discovered him, found his asthma inhaler, found his inhaler, thought that it was a black pepper spray, and he was locked in a police van.”

Vucic promises a ‘rigorous response’

Serbian President Alexander Vusic has promised a rigorous state response, but deny that the emergency will affect the situation.

“At one point, you will see the complete determination of the Serbian state. And now we have lakes that they managed to bring chaos in our country.

At a press conference, he accused students and citizens of trying to destroy the state, comparing them and the Nazis, and said that it would be killed a few days ago.

Hey, it is not alone to think.

“I am afraid of human life. Life of American citizens, innocent, children, workers.” Therefore, there is a fear that the regime may kill something with its own ranks to further increase violence. “I think he is ready for any way, because there is a huge amount of money and mafia around him. And you know how the mafia operates.”

Will unrest go to the election immediately?

Joran Stojiljkovic, professor of retired political science, described the situation as a balance of powerlessness, where both sides struggle to achieve the upper hand, nor is there a clear strategy.

“I don’t think Vucic also wishes for a situation of emergency because he does not have the ability to implement it when people are not ready to comply with, and they are not clear,” said Stojillajkovic. “The desirable result is definitely a form of dialogue, relative Ellie fair electoral position, and elections within a few months by the end of this year or by the beginning of the next.”

He emphasizes that it is important for students who still have important for citizens around the story of a political resolution, who still have trinity.

Stojilskovic said, “You need to clearly tell people what they will achieve when you win the elections and what you will do in the normal elections of appropriate time in a year or two, so that never happens again.”

From open suppression to protests and attacks or even new waves of elections and possible topping of vucic, all results appear on the table.
