Nigeria said on Monday that it plans to implement mutual visa requirements on the US following the new Washington rules, stating that Nigerian applicants have stopped their social media activity for the last five years.
The Nigerian Foreign Ministry confirmed the decision that the US mission in Nigeria issued its directive over the weekend.
What is the need for US Visa Rules?
The American mission said that applicants will be listed by all social media users names, handles, email addresses and phone numbers related to the accounts used in the last five years.
Mission said, “Visa applicants are required to list all social media users’ names or handles of every platform used for the last five years on the DS -160 visa application form.”
It said that applicants will be requested to certify that the information in their visa application was correct before signing and sub -submission.
Mission said, “Leaving social media information can lead to visa denial and incompatibility for future visas.”
This regulation is part of comprehensive measures by the Trump administration that states that it is “to ensure national security”.
The rule expands the first requirement for international students to share their accounts and even low privacy settings.
Officials said that information will help applications more well.

Nigerian Foreign Ministry spokesman Kmibi Abionfa said that the government would adopt similar measures for Americans for Nigerian visas.
