Thousands of people were ordered to be vacated on Thursday evening in Central Berlin, when the World War II bomb was discovered in the Spri River.
Police have set up a 500 -meter security circumference in a thick populated area at the center of the German capital. The authorities built the door at the door within the security perimeter to inform the residents of the withdrawal order.
Berlin daily Mirror The newspaper reported long lines in an emergency overnight at the town hall in Berlin Mital district, in which hundreds of people waited for a place to spend the night. Another shelter in a nearby school was opened immediately after midnight to accommodate the high number of people.
The neighborhood is home to many embassies and city administration offices.
Bomb disposal is expected in the early hours of Friday morning
Officials said the bomb was discovered during the construction work near the Fish Corridor in Central Berlin. Investigation for unexplained armament from World War II is common in German cities before large construction projects.
Police said the bomb wants to deteriorate in the morning when the divers would be able to conduct a close inspection. The bomb is four meters under water, and is covered in silt and mud, which complicates the operation, the police said.
Residents are allowed to return to their homes on Friday morning.
Till then, ship traffic on the race, which moves through the city, keeps stopping. The roads have been closed and the service on the subway line 2 is suspended.
Thursday’s bomb settlement withdrawal is one of the largest in Berlin in recent years.
