Operations at several major airports in Europe faced disruption on Saturday, when the cyber attack targeted the service provider for the check-in and boarding system.
Flights at airports at London, Berlin and Brussels were delayed or canceled.
In a statement shared on the website of Brussels Airport, Brussels Airport said, “Friday night affects several European airports, including a cyber attack, check-in and service provider for boarding systems, Brussels Airport,”.
The operator said, “This flight has a major impact on the schedule and the will, unnaturally, causes the delay and cancellation of flights,” the operator said.
“The service provider is actively working on this issue and is trying to solve the problem as soon as possible.”
Airport officials advised passengers with a flying flying for Saturday to confirm their visit with the airlines before going to the airport.
According to aviation data provider Syrium, 29 departs and arrival in Heathro, Berlin and Brussels have been canceled so far. A total of 651 departures from Heathro were set on Saturday, along with 228 from Brussels and 226 from Berlin.
Service provider report ‘cyber-related disintegration’
Megil, airport service provider Collins Aerospace confirmed AFP that several European airports, including Brussels, Berlin and London (Heathro), were killed by “cyber-related disruption”, which affected the check-in and baggage drop system.
The aerospace firm said, “We have become aware of a cyber-related disruption for our music software in selected airports.”
It states that the effect is “limited to electronic customer check-in and baggage drops and can be reduced with manual check-in operation.”
More airport report issues in Europe
Heathro warned the third party supplier of delays due to “a technical issue”.
Megil, Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport ran a banner on its website, stating, “Due to a technical issue in a system provider working across Europe, we are waiting for a long time in check-in. We are working on a quick solution.”
Later, the Dublin Airport announced that IT and Cork Airport, the second largest airport in Ireland, was facing minor impact from the issue.
Saturday’s clear cyber attack comes a day after the airport in Russia’s second largest city, St. Petersburg, said the website had hacked the bees.
