What happened on Friday?
NATO member Estonia stated that three Russian fighter jets entered their airspace and flew for 12 minutes in “unprecedented Brezen” on Friday, amid growing stress on the eastern flank of the alliance.
Foreign Minister Margas Tsahaka said that Russia had already violated the Estonian airspace four times this year, “which is unacceptable in itself, but today, during which three fighter jets, it is unprecedented.”
Following the events in Poland and Romania, Estonia was the third NATO country of Russia in recent weeks to report its airspace infiltration.
However, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement early Saturday that its jets flew on the neutral water of the Baltic Sea to proceed from northwestern Russia to Kaliningrad.
The Russian Ministry said, “Flight was strictly held according to the rules of international airs, without violating the boundaries of other states.
“During the flight, the Russian aircraft did not deviate from the Agreed Flight Path and did not violate the Estonian airspace,” the ministry said.
