The European Union (EU) proposed a new strategic agenda with India, which increases bilateral relations for a higher level to hit India with large -scale tawro from the United States.
In July, the European Union approved the Indian refinery that refined Russian crude, Ensure that it cannot sell EuropeSince then, US President Donald Trump imposed 50% of tarts on India, half of this was as a punishment for buying Russian fuel.
But as the European Union and the US align their policies against Russia on secondary sanctions for their war in Ukraine, Trump allegedly called the block to impose a 100% tatural on India.
However, the European Union has adopted a different view in itself New strategic agenda: A business transaction attracts India away from the classroom of Russia’s influence and enhances strategic relations.
European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen said, “Now it is time to focus on trusted partners and be guided by doubled and general values on the partnership contained in shared interests.”
“With our new European Union-India strategy, we are taking our relationship to the next level.”
How European Union, India are related
The European Union’s top diplomat Kaza Kallas admitted that the block has a “clear arena of disagreement” in the context of India’s purchase of Russian oil and India’s participation in the Russian -led Zapad military exercise in Belarus.
But he added to “turbulent time”, perhaps for tension in the European Union’s own relations with the US, the block needs partnership.
“To deepen relations with India, not really pushing them to the corner of Russia,” he said, “What did he agree in a conversation between senior European Union officials.”
The European Union official said that better relations with India could be benefited.
India is a “Moding Voice”, The Operal said, which does not take membership of the western agenda in the forums, discovering BRICS and China-led Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where New Delhi has a seat but the European Union is missing.
“India is trying to be useful, talking [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelanski, inviting Zelansky [New] Delhi. So there is scope for a conversation, “Hey said.
Garima Mohan, a Brasail -based senior partner with the German Marshal Fund (GMF), said that the new strategic agenda is very ambitious and one is that “India as a significant partner, a counterweight to China as an important partner.”
The document lists close collaboration in Indo-Pacific and emphasizes India’s role in a rolled context for the European Union’s desire to get away from dependence on China.
European Union, India Defense Cooperation Steam
A major part of the strategic agenda is to promote defense industrial cooperation.
The European Union, India, sees the world’s second largest weapon importer after Ukraine, is as a huge market for European defense makers and a country that is looking to reduce dependence on Russia as well as to diversify its imports. India has expected to modernize its Navy and Air Force and has given more than € 70 billion ($ 83 billion) to protect for 2025–2026.
“I think if you are in India and are seeing how the Russian weapon is performing in Ukraine, you would like to quite naturally diversify,” said Jacob Funk Kirkeard, a senior partner of Brussel-based Think Tank, Brugel,.
He said, “As Europe, Europe and Ukraine want to become a malignant weapons and would be a natural option for India” to buy weapons, he said.
GMF researcher Mohan argued that Europe could buy more than India, which aims to sell at least € 5 billion in defense exports by 2029.
“While Europe is investing in its defense industrial complex and increasing its capabilities, it will still need to buy equipment from reliable partners,” he told DW. “Just not enough to buy shelves in Europe.”
Mohan was relieved that despite the decision to send a team of Indian soldiers to participate in a Russian -led Zapad military exercise in Belarus, the pace was not interrupted in relations.
“Zapad, it was not a good plan on India’s part,” he said. “I think it was a collision in the road, and it strengthens the voices of those who say that the European Union should not do more with India.”
“But it’s a good thing that communication (on increasing strategic relations) has been released and things are in pace,” he said.
European Union countries return strong relations with India
During a recent phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed “excellent” relations and abandoned any demand to implement restrictions or high Tatura.
Instead, see European, India is equally interested in preserving a rule-based global trade order as a partner.
On a visit to New Delhi earlier this month, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said that some countries were erecting trade obstacles, India and Germany should reduce them.
Germany has decided to double the amount of its trade with India, and Indian Firing Minister S Jaishankar said that India was banking on the support of Germany for the European Union’s Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
French President Emmanuel Macron discussed Ukraine with the Indian Prime Minister over the phone and updated him on the security guarantee. Europe is planning for Ukraine.
“India and France share the same determination to achieve a justified and permanent peace in Ukraine,” he posted on X.
Experts said that India and the European Union cannot exclude all differences by the end of the year, as is expected from Modi and Leyen, there is no doubt that the European Union Union-India relations are on a trajectory upwards.
“But with this, there should be a politically such that the purchase of India’s Russian oil will be on a bottom of the trajectory,” said Kirkegard.
