The main opposition party of Türkiye, in an attempt to protect the figures of him and other senior party from the upcoming court, has again reprimanded its leader what an order to remove him.
Ozgur Ozel was initially elected president of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in 2023, but President Recep Tayip Erdogan called the vote “tainted” and a “fake process”.
A court in Ankara is ready to rule on 24 October whether the 2023 CHP Congress, in a case to cancel the results of the Congress, that the government critics say that the Turkish slide under Erdogan has been highlighted.
Turkish opposition wants protection from government cracks
But the CHP representatives hope that by re -choosing Ozel in an extraordinary Congress on Sunday, they can show in the court that their party president has a new mandate to oppose Erdogan and to mount him from government charges.
Ojel and 11 other CHP members – Erdogan’s largest political rival, Istanbul’s Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was imprisoned – from financial irregularities to violation of the law of Turkish political parties. All deny the wrongdoing.
CHP is the largest opposition force in Türkiye Parliament and controls the largest cities in Türkiye including Istanbul and capital Ankara.
Since the custody of Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu in March, Ojel has increased as much prominence as a potential challenging for Erdogan.
Imamoglu’s arrest in March staged a massive protest, in which the Turkish police arrested about 1.900 people.
