Will Kim and Trump meet again? – DW – 09/26/2025

During his visit to Washington in August, South Korean President Lee J. Mayung told President Donald Trump that he was ready when Trump Golf could play a round of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

“Someday I will see him … he was great with me,” Trump replied.

On Monday, the North Korean state -run media quoted Kim as saying that he was open for a new round of discussion with Trump, saying that Kim enjoyed a personal bond with the US President during his first administration.

“I still have good memories of President Trump,” Kim told a session of the highest People’s assembly in Pyongyang.

The two leaders met for an unprecedented summit in Singapore in June 2018, during the months of summer, during which Trump called Kim “a rocket man on a suicide mission”, while “Totoy destroyed” threatened North Korea.

‘We love fur’

After the meeting, in which the Korean peninsula’s “complete atomicization” was given an unwanted statement, Trump quipped that Kim “beautiful letters” and “V fail in love.”

The two leaders will exchange some 27 letters during Trump’s first term. In many of them, Kim addressed Trump as “His Majesty”, while using flower prose, he sorrows his friendship.

However, the enthusiasm was less live after the Singapore summit. In February 2019, a follow -up meeting was cut in Hanoi when it was clear that there would be no compromise on North Korea to leave their nuclear weapons program.

The leaders again summarized again in June 2019, which marks the Dimilitarian Zone between North and South for a photo op in Panmunjom village.

Now in his second term as President, Trump is facing a more embodied North Korea, which has continued to develop advanced weapons, while often stimulating missile tests are performed. Pyongyang has formed strong relations with China and especially, with Russia since Trump’s first term.

On Thursday, South Korean President Lee warned the United Nations General Assembly that North Korea was very close to development in the intercontinental ballistic missile, caressing an nuclear war for the US.

North Korea’s Non-Crucial Atomic Program

Despite indicating his desire to meet Kim, there are no indications from the Trump administration that a fourth summit is in tasks. So it seems that neither side has said on the important questions of North Korea’s nuclear program.

On Monday, Kim said that North Korea’s atomic program is not a jungle -bargained chip, and reiterated his urge that any meeting with Trump is accidental on Washington.

Kim insisted, “Denuclearization is absolutely impossible.”

Responding to Kim’s statements, the US State Department said this week that the Trump administration is committed to North Korea’s “competitive nuclearization”.

The Kim rule sees its nuclear program as an existence for its existence and validity. The analyst says Kim will recognize us as a nuclear power on the table in any talks with Trump.

The meetings were criticized during Trump’s first term, which was criticized to provide a place on the validity of Kim regime and a place on the international platform, while nothing was found in return. North Korea remains under international sanctions on its weapon program.

What does Kim want?

In late October, Trump is due to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders participating in the forum in the South Korean city of Gyeongju.

Professor of politics and international relations at Hankukuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul said that Chinese leader Xi Jinping at Trump APEC can provide an inauguration for a meeting of Beijing Trump-Kim.

“I think Kim is happy to send a trial balloon to see if he can bite the second apple with Trump and finally get the US to recognize North Korea as nuclear power,” Richie said.

Richie stated that the second Trump administration may be ready to provide a more vigilion room for North Korea over the nuclear dispute, to come out with the presence of a win.

He said, “Under Trump, the US has indicated that it is ready to move the hypothesis of the past as an immediate objective and instead it is’ a ‘for the future’,” he told DW.

Richie said that in any conversation with the US, Kim prefers to get relief and more diplomatic recognition of restrictions while trying to run a nail between the US and South Korea.

“Question, of course, what Trump has done to get out of the deal,” Hey said. “Trump is not appealing for free and I don’t know what North Korea and what can bring to the table,” said.

Park Jung-Won, a professor at the University of Dankuk, told DW that Kim aims to seize her new diplomatic promotion opportunity, as displayed when she appeared in a military parade in Beijing in early September when she appeared as a similar with Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a military parade.

“Kim wants to take the most advantage of the opportunity to strengthen the position of North Korea and win the recognition of his nation as a nuclear state,” Heer said.

However, the park is unrelated that another Kim-Tram meeting is adjacent.

At APTEC in October, Trump is likely to focus on dismissing business issues with China and the US President, so according to the park, he will meet other regional leaders while living in South Korea.

The analyst said that there would be a lot to discuss and agree behind the curtain before the person’s meeting.

“If Trump offered a summit, that I am sure Kim would agree as Old Xi and Putin,” the park said. “But clearly, Trump feels that there are a lot of issues against him at home, I don’t think he has time to take something on this scale.”
