The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday voted to authorize an important large multinational force to help prevent the deteriorating gang violence in Haiti.
Adopted Sankalp, co-proposed by the United States and Panama, will convert the current Kenya-led multinational security aid (MSS) mission to “gang repression force” (GSF).
There are currently 1,000 police officers, mostly from Kenya, to support the overwell Haitian police force.
The new force can now have a maximum of 5,500 uniformed personnel, who want to include both police officers and soldiers.
In the UNSC, there were 12 votes and three trains in favor of China, Russia and Pakistan.
Welcoming support for resolution
The support of the vote was warmly welcomed by Haiti’s transitional presidential council leader, Laurent St.-Sir, who made the vote happy.
“This vote is a decisive turn in the fight against armed criminal groups that are creating grief for our families, paralyzing our economy and threatening the future of our nation,” Heer said.
The US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz stated that “the multinational security aid mission for the new gang repression force, a mission five -fold the size of its predecessor,” the international community shared “the burden”.
“This resolution offers Haiti Hope. It is an hope that is slipping fast because the terrorist gang expanded, raped, murdered, murdered and terrorized the high -lieuten population,” he said.
