What is controversy
The Trump government has confronted several major universities including Harvard for the past several months. The administration had threatened that if the institute does not follow the government stance on pro -Palestine demonstrations, diversity policies and transgender rights in the campus, their funding would be cut off. President Trump had alleged that Harvard and other universities gave place to anti -Jewish demonstrations during the Gaza war. At the same time, the protesters (including some Jewish organizations) said that the government is wrongly accusing the Jewish opposition or extremity to the government’s criticism of the Israeli attack and the support of Palestinian rights.
Deal with another IV League University
In the last few months, the Trump administration has entered into agreements with other institutions including Colombia and Brown University. Colombia agreed to give more than $ 220 million, while Brown University has announced to give $ 50 million for local workforce development. The government had started the process of preventing Harvard’s research funds of more than $ 2 billion and even questioned the university’s accreditation. Conflict in court
Harvard approached the court against these actions and claimed that the Trump administration was attacking his freedom of expression. In early September, a Federal Judge had stopped the government from stopping international students and cutting research funding. However, despite this, the administration continued to increase pressure on Harvard. Recently, the US Health and Human Services Department has started the process, so that the university can be excluded from all government contracts.
