The federal government is facing a shutdown – DW – 10/01/2025

While the exact results are not yet clear, under a shutdown, no government operations grind to a stop.

This means that hundreds of thousands of federal government workers will be temporarily without salary.

This may disrupt the payment of some social security-net benefits.

If funding is suspended, federal agencies have prepared contingency plans.

Among other things, those schemes have been specified which offices will be open and which employees will be furlheds.

For example, the National Transportation Safety Board further stated the shutdown that it would temporarily suspend a quarter of its employees.

But other government work, such as NASA’s space mission and border security, will continue.

The White House has suggested that a shutdown may lead to a large scale pruning in the government.

Trump said late on Tuesday, “So we are closing many people who are going to be very impressed. And they are Democrats, they are going to be a democrats.”

Earlier this year, the move was taken to add the pain of government employees after billionaire Alone Musk’s official efficiency, or the Dog’s department.
