Strike at Dangot Oil Refinery ended by Union – DW – 10/01/2025

One of the Nigeria’s largest oil workers union has ended its two -day strike against the Dungot Refinery, the government on Wednesday announced.

The Nigeria Ministry of Labor said that the decision came after a meeting between Dangot Petroleum and management of government officials.

In a statement published on X, the Laboratory Ministry said that Nigeria’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (Pengasana) has “agreed to start the process of shutting down its strike … while Dangote started the process of taking up the work of disintegrated employees for other companies with Dangot group, which caused no loss of salary.”

Why did the strike say?

The dispute between Pangasana Union and Dangote began last week when the Sangh accused the company of firing 800 union workers and replacing them with 2,000 Indian workers.

Dangote is the largest refinery in Africa, with a raw processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

Last Friday, Pangasana said the workers were fired to join the union.

The Dangot Refinery at the time said with the authorities, saying that the dismissal was part of an employee reorganization and accused the affected people of sabotage.

A fuel tanker drivers’ union launched a separate two-day strike in September, when he accused Dangote of hiring new drivers, on the condition they did not join a union. The company reduced the thesis allegations.
