A Thai Hitman, who killed a Cambodian opposition politician in Bangkok, was sent to jail on Friday for murder.
Lim Kimya, a former opposition MP in Cambodia, was shot dead in an old quarter in Bangkok on 7 January.
Kimya was shot in the chest immediately after reaching the Thai capital in a bus from neighboring Cambodia. What is his French wife, and saw her husband’s murder.
The Thai defendant, who was arrested in Cambodia a day after the shooting, suffered a possible death sentence for a prefabricated murder, but his punishment was committed to life because he confessed.
Who was Lim Kimya?
What is Kimya, 74, a dual Cambodian and French citizen and a member of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) from 2013 to 2017.
The CNRP was the main opposition movement of the country and was dissolved by the Supreme Court of Cambodia due to an alleged treason conspiracy before the 2018 general election, which was rejected by CNRP as a construction at that time.
Two Cambodian suspects reveal
Two more men are still being sore for murder, both called Cambodian National. One is believed to have hired Hitman, while the other was called a lookout who was allegedly in the bus with the victim and his wife.
One of the accused was an ally to create the ruling party leader Hun Sen, which issued a statement by the ruling party in Cambodia, saying the suspect was rejected from the role in March 2024.
Hun Sen led Cambodia for about four decades by 2023. Many western countries and human rights organizations have long accused their government of using the legal system to crush the opposition.
