Officials said on Sunday that heavy rains in Nepal killed landslides, electricity, and floods at least 22 people and 12 went missing.
Police spokesman Binod Gimire said that eighteen people were killed and seven went missing after seven villages flowed in East Ilam district.
Local officials said six members of a family were crushed when a landslide overtook his house, said by local authorities.
Officials said that 114 people were rescued, Almum’s Assistant Administrative Officer Bholanath Gurgai said, although the rain continued and the blocked roads were fulfilling relief efforts.
Meanwhile, three people were killed due to electrical attacks in southern Nepal and one person died in floods in Udaipur district.
Landlides cut Kathmandu
Rinji Sherpa, a spokesman at Kathmandu Airport, said, “Domestic flights are largely interrupted, but international flights are normally running.”
The major highways connecting Kathmandu to other areas were closed after destroying the destroyed or blocked sections of the road. Floods, so many houses in the capital were submerged.
The Meteorological Department warned that the rain is liked to continue till Monday, after which the government declared a national holiday till then.
Around the same time last year, 224 people were killed and 158 were injured during the monsoon -related floods and landslides.
