Following the disqualification of the popular opposition politician Maurice Kamte, a major proportion of the youth of Cameron no longer believes in the validity of the upcoming presidential elections.
The world’s oldest leader, 92 -year -old Paul Biya, has been in power for 43 years. Although he rarely appears publicly, political supervisors see him as the future winner of the October 12 presidential election. If he is declared the winner, it will be the eighth term of Bia, which means he held office for one and seven years.
But with helping population under 30, youngsters in Cameron can become a game changer. But will they appear in elections, or will they sit in disappointment on unemployment and corruption?
“I am interested in the political matters of my country, because our future depends on it. But there are some things we are waiting before taking a situation”, a young road seller in Daula told DW. Others were separated from the political events of the country and overwell.
Weak opposition
The name of Maurice Work is not visible on the ballot papers and the disability of eleven other candidates to form an opposition opposition front against Paul Bia, an understanding that the election is a foregone concept.
Kama, Bia’s strongest challenge, what dismissed because a rival group of the Manidem party, who supported him, presented Dudonon Yebga as a candidate.
Of the 83 presidential candidates, only 12 were approved, which had sub -appointed their application for the election body.
The tendency to boycott elections is now widespread. According to Florent Sievee, the leader of a youth community, some disappointed young people are openly showing their disappointment.
“It should be accepted that the enthusiasm of the Cameronian public for the presidential elections on 12 October is no longer what it used to be.
“We are waiting for the order of Maurice Work whether we are interested again or not. Because if he doesn’t say anything, I guarantee you that many cameurunians will not be in elections”, hey, he said, urged the international community to support the cameraon at the presidential election with Maurice Cat on the ballot.
Politician Banda Kani argues that the opposition’s failure to unite to challenge Paul Biya has enhanced the apathy of Cameron.
Call for more civilian education
The leader of the New People’s Movement (MNP) blamed the devaluation of young camuruns for the lack of civil education.
“Thesis youth are inspired by the situation of difficult living, what are all the youth around the world.
He said, “The lack of political culture, which is ideal in our country, means that we have a youth who is able to get up, rebellion, but it is unable to fulfill his generation mission”, he said.
Others, such as Cyril Ambani, are not interested in elections. The motorcycle taxi driver said, “To be honest, I do not know the events around the election or votes.”
Read a common disappointment in the society behind this attitude. “We just see that the candidates are not real interest in young people and their everyday problems,” Ambani told DW.
According to Robert Natamac, a welder in the capital Yaoound, the gap between election promises and reality is leading towards the growing division between young people and political actors. Added to it, a closed system under the leadership of Paul Biya has a widespread perception, with no weight in his voice.
“As usual, they are doing everything they are doing to control the political system,” NTAMACK told DW, insisting that it has been running for a long time.
“This is why young people in Cameroon are not interested in politics today. They are not interested because they are neither involved nor consulted nor honored.”
Increase in registration of young voters
However, other voices emphasize different mobility. Cameroon, Chairman of Junior Chamber International Chananceline Boutchoung Nghomssi believes that some youth are joining the election process more.
“Since 2016, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of youth registering in Alexaam [Elections Cameroon] Office. Since 2018, there are more young applicants, “he said, saying that the country was raising awareness to influential people on social media and creating social consciousness with their content.
“We are looking at a global movement of youth who understand that they should do their share to hear their voice.”
Now more than 8 million voters are registered on the electoral rolls, including more than 2.7 million youths under the age of 35. In 1960, the French colony gained its freedom.
The presidential election in October 2025 is therefore becoming a decisive moment for Cameron. While some youth are disappointed with notice, others are convinced that they carry forward hope for real changes within themselves and their participation can make a decisive difference.
Charges in front of elections
Some political actor and civil society organizations are accused of blocking the electoral process on the ruling party, Cameron People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM). CPDM has clearly dismissed the allegations.
Duvel Label Abbala, a member of the Yaoound 4 CPDM Municipal Commission, emphasized that Cameronians live in a Democratic country where there is a longer a long time around various parties, all have their own agenda.
“If we win the victory of landslides on the evening of 12 October, no one should say that the pseudo-clock we have made, they have helped us.” This regional network is sufficient for our victory, even without ebeng tired by some false coalitions with some competitive candidates. ,
For EBale, the knowledge of President Biya is an advantage on other political candidates. “You know that old people in Africa are synonymous with knowledge, and we think President Biya has saved us from many situations because at some point, to know that we have knowledge to make the right decision.”
