US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s plane had to make an unexpected stop in the UK while flying from Brussels to the US because the plane’s windshield was cracked.
“The aircraft landed following standard procedures and everyone on board, including Secretary Hegseth, is safe,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said.
After leaving Brussels after attending Hegseth NATO defense ministers meetingOpen source flight trackers noticed his plane losing altitude and starting to broadcast an emergency signal.
Hegseth had warned earlier in the day that the US would “impose costs” on Russia if it continued to resist US President Donald Trump’s pressure to end the war in Ukraine.
In February, an Air Force plane carrying Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also forced to return to Washington because of a problem with the cockpit windshield.
