Millions expected to gather at anti-Trump ‘No Kings’ rallies
Millions of people are expected to gather in the US and around the world on Saturday to demonstrate against US President Donald Trump and the policies of his administration.
More than 2,600 events are expected to take place in all 50 US states, as well as the capital Washington DC.
Events are also planned in European countries such as Spain, France and Germany, with a rally also expected in Melbourne, Australia.
The “No Kings” movement brings together 300 organizations in protest of the Trump administration.
It says, “The President thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we do not have kings and we will not back down against lawlessness, corruption, and cruelty.” “No Kings” movement website,
The website alleges the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stepped up deportation efforts at Trump’s direction and “gushing up health care, environmental protections and education when families need them most.”
Earlier this year, Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which would result in millions of Americans losing their health insurance due to cuts to the Medicaid safety net program.
The Trump administration has also cut key clean air and climate protections and taken steps to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, which will have a significant negative impact on schoolchildren with special needs.
Trump continues crackdown on Democrats even as shutdown continues
These demonstrations are taking place amid the US government shutdown with no end in sight.
The Trump administration has used the shutdown to cut federal funding to Democratic states that did not vote for Trump in last year’s presidential election. The White House has also sought to use the shutdown to shrink the federal government and shut down “Democrat” programs.
Additionally, in recent months Trump has continued his efforts to deploy the National Guard to key Democratic-run cities such as Chicago, but these efforts have been slowed by the courts.
The Trump administration has also brought charges against the president’s political enemies in recent weeks.
The Justice Department under Trump ally Pam Bondi has indicted former FBI agent James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James and former national security adviser John Bolton — all frequent targets of the president’s ire.
