Thinking the same, Anshul Gandhi also completed his graduation from Dental College in 2013. He was all set to start his career as a dentist, but soon he realized that this was not the work he wanted to do for the rest of his life. While doing root canals and designing dentures, he felt something was lacking. Then, listening to his inner voice, he took a decision.
Become a data analyst after doing BDS!
After completing the BDS course, Anshul Gandhi did not follow the common path. He did not open any clinic. Instead, he took up the job of a data analyst in India itself. Due to this, he developed a relationship with programming and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This was the time when AI was not a big ‘buzzword’ like it is today, but Anshul saw the future in it. To strengthen his technical base, he went to Houston, USA in 2016 and obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics.
Combo of healthcare and tech
Biomedical Informatics degree proved to be a boon for him as it was a wonderful combination of healthcare and technology. This degree gave him the depth he needed in the world of technology and also provided a connection to his previous medical experience. After completing his master’s degree in 2018, Anshul started working as a data scientist. During this time, he worked to understand healthcare data and improve patient outcomes.
Got a job in Dell in 2021
After continuous learning and gaining expertise, Anshul Gandhi joined Dell Company in 2021 as Machine Learning Engineer. At Dell, he worked on large and complex machine learning systems and also filed AI/ML-based patents for cybersecurity solutions. Even after this his steps did not stop there. However, his dream was always to work on a large scale by associating with ‘Big Tech’ companies like Google, Meta or Apple.
Changed strategy to get a job in Apple
Anshul Gandhi started looking for a new job again in August 2024. But by this time a major change had taken place in the market. By this time the level of AI and competition was greater than ever before. Now was the era of generative AI. This had raised the bar of technical competence quite high. To face this new challenge, Anshul upgraded his strategy:
Active on LinkedIn: He focused on increasing the number of LinkedIn connections from 200 to more than 500. A recruiter had told him that a profile with less than 500 connections looked less authentic.
Becoming a Thought Leader: Instead of just asking for jobs, Anshul Gandhi started regularly sharing AI-related content and engaging with content from industry professionals. In this way he proved himself to be the thought leader of his field.
Hard Practice: He practiced LeetCode questions for the interview and also gave mock interviews, especially focusing on practicing system design.
Dream comes true in January 2025
Anshul Gandhi’s hard work, willingness to continuously learn and smart networking strategy paid off. He cracked Apple interviews on the basis of direct application and referral. Finally, in January 2025, he joined Apple as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer. The story of Anshul Gandhi proves that the path to success is not straight.
