President Donald Trump said Friday he has commuted the sentence of disgraced former Republican congressman George Santos, who was serving a seven-year sentence.
“George has been in solitary confinement for a long time and, by all accounts, has been horrifically abused,” the president wrote in a statement on his Truth social platform.
“Therefore, I signed a commutation to immediately release George Santos from prison. Good luck George, have a nice life!” He added.
Santos was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to inflating fundraising figures and falsifying the names of donors to secure financial support for the Republican Party during the 2022 election cycle.
