China US Tariff War: A new round of tariff war has started between China and America. Both the countries are not at all ready to bow before each other. After Donald Trump imposed additional 100% tariff, now Xi Jinping has also dropped a new tariff bomb on American ships.

Beijing. China on Friday announced the imposition of special port service tariffs on US-bound ships. This step has been taken in response to the US decision, under which the US had announced the imposition of additional port service charges on ships owned or operated by Chinese enterprises. This new fee will be effective from October 14.
A statement issued by the Chinese Transport Ministry said that China will impose this special fee on US-bound ships under its laws and regulations. This includes ships owned or operated by US entities or individuals and ships that have 25 percent or more US ownership or control, as well as US-flagged and US-built ships.
Answering the media’s questions in this regard, the spokesperson of the Chinese Commerce Ministry said that the American step is a clear example of unilateralism, which reflects the intention of discrimination. He said that this action has seriously harmed the interests of Chinese enterprises. The spokesperson reiterated that China strongly opposes such actions and considers them unacceptable.
The spokesperson described the retaliation as a “legitimate self-defense measure” and said its aim was to protect fair competition in the global shipping and shipbuilding markets. He urged the US to act with caution, correct its wrong approach and find solutions through dialogue and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
It is worth noting that this decision of China has been taken in response to the measures announced by the Office of the US Trade Representative on April 17, according to which from October 14, additional port service fees will be imposed on ships owned or operated by Chinese enterprises, Chinese-flagged and Chinese-built ships. China has described such actions as a violation of the principles of international trade and the maritime agreement between China and the United States, causing serious obstacles to bilateral maritime trade.
