Deborah K. 19 Congress MPs including Ross, Ro Khanna, Brad Sherman, Raja Krishnamurthy, Pramila Jayapal, Frank Pallone Jr. have signed this letter. US lawmakers wrote in the letter that up to 50% tariff was imposed on Indian goods at the end of August, which included the already implemented 25% tariff. Due to this, Indian manufacturers suffered losses and American consumers had to buy expensive goods.

India will go with China and Russia

American lawmakers warned Trump that increasing tariffs could bring India closer to countries like China and Russia, which would weaken America’s strategic position. In this, India has been described as a stable power in the Indo-Pacific region and an important partner in defense cooperation and its important role in the Quad alliance with America, Australia and Japan has been mentioned. He stressed that cooperation between the two countries shows how free and open societies can prosper through mutual respect.

Review Tariff Policy

The lawmakers urged the US administration to review the tariff policy and continue dialogue with India’s leadership. The letter also emphasized the US-India economic partnership, with special mention of trade, jobs and investment. The MPs said that India is a stable power in the Indo-Pacific region and it has an important role in the Quad alliance. It also said that US industries depend on India for key inputs in sectors such as semiconductors, healthcare and energy, while Indian investments in the US have contributed to job creation in communities across the country.
