Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, say they have taken control of the army’s headquarters in al-Fashar, the last major town in the Darfur region not previously under their control.
In a statement, RSF, referring to the Sudanese army, claimed it had “increased control of the city of al-Fashar from the hold of mercenaries and militias.”
A video posted on social media by the RSF on Sunday showed army vehicles retreating from the headquarters and its soldiers cheering in front of a sign saying “6th Division Infantry”.
The army has not commented yet.
If confirmed, RSF’s claim would represent a significant gain in Sudan’s two-year conflict. There was an explosion in Sudan in 2023, when the Sudanese army and the RSF, once allies, turned on each other.
Many more to follow…
