Israeli security forces on Thursday killed two Palestinian men in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin after they surrendered.
The Palestinian Authority said the two men, aged 26 and 37, were killed in a “brutal field execution carried out by Israeli occupation forces” and condemned the incident as a “war crime”.
Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said he “fully supports” Israeli soldiers who killed two “wanted terrorists”.
Video apparently shows Palestinian men being shot
Footage on social media and broadcast by television channels, including Israeli ones, reportedly showed the incident.
In the video, unarmed men come out of a building in Jenin and lift their shirts and lie down in apparent surrender. After reportedly instructing them to turn back inside, Israeli forces opened fire at close range.
The Israeli military and police said the incident was being investigated.
But Gvir wrote on social media, “The forces did exactly what was expected of them – the terrorists must die!”
The Israeli military and police said in a joint statement that an operation was being conducted in the Jenin area to capture individuals wanted for terrorist activities, including throwing explosives and firing at security forces.
