Rob Reiner’s son will be charged with two counts of murder – DW – 12/16/2025

Nick Reiner, the son of Hollywood film producer Rob Reiner, will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of his parents, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman told a news conference Tuesday.

Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner were found dead in their L.A. home on Sunday.

Nick Renner was arrested without resistance in the Exposition Park area, about four miles (6.4 kilometers) from the crime scene, several hours after his parents’ bodies were found, police said.

What did the prosecutors say?

Prosecutors said enough evidence had been collected by Los Angeles detectives to suspect Nick Renner of murdering his parents.

The district attorney said a knife was used in the murders, but did not share any details about the investigation or the circumstances of the murders.

Police have not shared any information about a possible motive.

LA District Attorney Hochman said the first-degree murder charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison or the death penalty.

“No decision has been taken at this time regarding the death penalty,” he said.

Prosecutors said they would formally file charges on Tuesday.

Renner was expected to appear in court Tuesday.

However, lawyer Alan Jackson said he was not brought to court for medical reasons. Renner was being held without bail in Los Angeles County after being booked Sunday night on suspicion of murder.

Jackson did not provide further details on the case and Renner has not yet entered a plea.
