Police officer killed in New Moscow explosion – DW – 12/24/2025

Russia’s Investigative Committee said on Wednesday that two police officers and another person were killed in an overnight explosion in southern Moscow.

“Two traffic police officers spotted a suspicious person near a police car. When they arrived to detain him, an explosive device detonated,” investigators said in a statement posted on the Telegram channel.

The blast occurred near the site of a car bomb on Monday, killing a senior Russian general.

Both officers were taken to hospital but later died from their injuries.

A man “who was close to police officers” was also killed, SKR said. Russian state media agency TASS reported that “the suspect is also dead.”

SKR has launched a criminal investigation.

The agency is also investigating the car bomb that killed Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov on Monday. The general was heading the training department of the General Staff of Russia.

Russia has accused Kiev of being behind a number of attacks targeting Russian military officers and pro-Kremlin figures since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

While Ukraine has confirmed it is responsible for some of the attacks, which have hit Moscow and parts of Russia-held Ukraine, Kiev has not commented on Monday’s bombing.
