A military transport plane crashed in Colombia on March 24, killing at least 66 passengers. The Lockheed Martin Hercules C-130 plane that reportedly suffered an impact near the runway as it took off from aa city near the Peruvian border, fell from the sky in a remote area, impeding rescue efforts. The event prompted calls from Colombian President Gustavo Petro to modernize the country’s aging military–a process he says has been hamstrung by bureaucratic obstacles.
