David Sacks, the White House cryptocurrency czar, leaves

  • Sacks believes there will be a regulatory framework for AI before November.

  • The council is intended to advise the president, the White House and executive officials.

David Sacks concluded his 130-day stint as Special Government Official (SGE), a role in which he served under the title of “cryptocurrency czar,” in charge of coordinating policies on bitcoin (BTC) and other digital assets for the US administration.

From now on, Sacks formally assumes co-chairmanship of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (Pcast)a movement that expands its radius of action to the entire high-level technological spectrum.

The Pcast, which has its roots in the Franklin D. Roosevelt era and was formalized in 1990, functions as a federal advisory committee. Sacks will lead an initial 15-member group that includes prominent figures such as Jensen Huang (Nvidia), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Lisa Su (AMD), and Michael Dell.

Regarding the composition of the group, Sacks highlighted in an interview on Thursday, March 26, the pragmatic nature of its members:

These people are ‘builders’. They are executors. They have not only done research or academia, but they have built companies… there is a strong emphasis on what we would call applied experience.

David Sacks.

The primary objective of the council is to conduct studies and issue technical recommendations on artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, nuclear energy and advanced semiconductors. According to Sacks, the Pcast provides to the White House “high-quality advice from the best minds” so that these recommendations are eventually translated into public policies.

One of the most pressing challenges for Sacks in this new stage is the unification of the rules of the game for AI. At the moment, The United States faces a “mosaic” of state regulations which, according to the official, hinders innovation.

«The president asks for a single regulation. We want to create a ‘single rule book’ for AI in the US. It’s an area where we are willing and happy to work with Democrats; “They understand that it is not practical to have fifty states running in different directions,” said Sacks, who was named White House cryptocurrency czar in December 2024, as reported by CriptoNoticias.

Likewise, the official was optimistic about the possibility of achieving significant bipartisan legislation before November.

Even though his focus is no longer exclusively on digital currencies, Sacks maintains the vision that American technology must dominate globally through market share. Under this premise, the Pcast will seek to ensure that the global technological standard continues to be the one developed on US soil.
