Bitcoin values serve to enhance contemporary journalism.
Not trusting, but verifying, should be the basis for any bitcoiner and journalist.
CriptoNoticias was born as an ethically bitcoiner company. As Latin Americans, it was necessity that led us to Bitcoin. The economic problems resulting from political corruption in our countries made it essential to find alternatives to national currencies for something as basic as survival.
But for us, Bitcoin not only served as a tool to solve a specific problem. Our context and history made us assimilate, more obviously than people in more stable countries, that freedom is not something that can be taken for granted, and that Bitcoin technology is not simply reduced to making money, but rather serves as tools to defend human dignity. Hence the proposal of separate money and the state will resonate so strongly with our principles as individuals and as a company.
Today, eleven years after our founding, at a time that feels as if the bitcoiner community is experiencing a crisis of its original values, as if mass and institutional adoption forgets where we come from and why we are here, CriptoNoticias reaffirms its company values as Bitcoin values.
Decentralization
In Bitcoin, decentralization ensures compliance with consensus rules and that no actor can defraud the network. Everyone is everyone’s controller, and thus the eternal political dilemma of who controls the controller is resolved. The more decentralized the power in the Bitcoin network, the greater the guarantee of honest behavior.
Although the CriptoNoticias Editorial Team has an Editorial Chief who serves as the coordinating axis of all content, each Section Head has its own agency and decision-making power over the content published by its team. Additionally, each part of the process goes through strict quality control distributed among several expert members of the newsroom, so that if any part fails in the process, there are multiple controllers for the content. When tasks and knowledge are distributed, news work testing is more efficient.
Privacy protection
Just as Bitcoin claims pseudonymity and privacy through the use of public key cryptography, at CriptoNoticias we defend that Satoshi Nakamoto claimed anonymity as a source. After Bitcoin, a name does not need to be associated with a physical person to give value to their word. The truth transcends identities.
Therefore, we defend the right to privacy of collaborators and sources, guaranteeing that the truth is disseminated without having to expose faces. Words and actions in cyberspace do not have to compromise someone’s physical integrity.
Censorship resistance
Bitcoin is money for enemies. No one can stop you from opening a wallet and making a transaction. In Bitcoin, no one can censor you.
In the same way, At CriptoNoticias we disseminate the information that we have verified as true regardless of who it may bother. Actors have threatened part of the team for revealing truths that were not convenient for them, and although personal integrity is the highest value, we have found ways to continue saying what it is our journalistic responsibility to disseminate. Information, like money, should also be for enemies.
Proof of Work
In order to add a block of transactions to Bitcoin, miners must dedicate computing power to find a number below the target of difficulty. In other words, Proof of Work is like finding a needle in a haystack: you have to work hard to find it, but once found, it is easily verifiable that the work was done because you have the needle in your hand.
At CriptoNoticias we believe that this is how the work of unraveling a story should be: there are no shortcuts; you have to dedicate the effort and resources to be able to verify and understand the facts and make it attractive. And once the story is put together, it is easily verifiable by anyone because, unlike other media, we place links to all the primary and secondary sources we use.
Opening
Anyone can use Bitcoin regardless of their nationality, sex, religion, immigration or social status, political ideology… Bitcoin is an open protocol available to anyone who wants to put time and energy into learning how to use it.
As we believe that each person who understands Bitcoin represents a benefit for humanity as a whole, despite being a specialized medium, we try to disseminate information and education in the plainest and most understandable language we can, as well as in different platforms and formats, both textual and audiovisual, in such a way that The information is accessible to the public and they can access Bitcoin.
Transparency
Just as Bitcoin accounting is transparent to anyone and you can even see which transactions are waiting for confirmation in the mempool, as well as which miner did the proof of work to add the block, at CriptoNoticias we are transparent both with the content of our articles and with the collaborator who carried out the proof of work to confirm it and record it in our history, always with due attribution to the source.
Freedom
Bitcoin is technology of Freedom. Both freedom to do with our money and property as we see fit without asking anyone’s permission, as long as it stays within the rules of consensus, as freedom to resist the instrumentation of money as a weapon of political coercion.
At CriptoNoticias we defend this freedom, both as it is expressed in Bitcoin and in our operation. Our collaborators have the freedom to write about what they wish within the consensus of the editorial line, but even to express dissenting opinions. In both Bitcoin and CriptoNoticias there is freedom to communicate value.
Trust mitigation
With Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto solved the problem of the historical betrayal of trust in the issuance and management of money centrally. The problem that contemporary journalism must solve is the need for trust in the media.
At CriptoNoticias we combat that journalism that rather exercises the propaganda of authorities, always questioning the statements that are made, regardless of who they come from, and trying to discuss such statements with other sources that have contrary opinions in order to combat the single thought and support the reader to form their own criteria. This is even more demanding in technological sources where the knowledge is specialized and may be unknown to the reader. Don’t trust, verify.
Antifragility
Just as Bitcoin has been nourished by chaos and multiple crises that have made it stronger (the scalability debate, the bans in China, the FUD on energy consumption), CriptoNoticias has gone through difficulties like three bear marketswhere the appetite for knowledge and information about Bitcoin is reduced; or entry into the mass media game, and We have known how to stay relevant to continue leading the game in Spanish, when other means of competition they have fallen by the wayside.
Divisibility
Just as Bitcoin is divisible in up to one hundred million satoshis (and in the Lightning network even in millisatoshis), the content of CriptoNoticias is divisible into different formats and distributed through different channels. Our goal is to do journalism through different channels and adapted to each of them, being able to inform and educate our audience through web publications, X threads, infographics, YouTube tutorials, reels on Instagram, podcasts on Spotify, information capsules on Telegram, among others.
Open source
Because it uses the MIT free software license, anyone can verify the Bitcoin code themselves, modify it, and reproduce it. Likewise, at CriptoNoticias we always have a rule of referring and linking our sources. So that may cost us the reader to stop reading our article, We believe that you have the right and even the responsibility to verify the information yourself. when possible.
Likewise, we are aware that our content is reproduced verbatim in other media without linking to our page. We do nothing to prevent it; They are free to do so. Finally, the information from our reporters is public and open, so the reader can verify for themselves who wrote the news and even communicate directly with them.
