Iran threatens to end ceasefire after Israel attacks Lebanon

Following Israeli attacks in Lebanon that killed at least 182 people and injured nearly 900 others, Iran has threatened to resume hostilities.

The US, Israel and Iran are sparring over extending the ceasefire agreement to Lebanon.

A senior US official has said Iran’s 10-point plan was not in line with the terms the White House had agreed to to stop the war.

US Vice President J.D. Vance said, “If Iran wants to let these negotiations fail…over Lebanon, which has nothing to do with them, and which the United States never said was part of the ceasefire, that is ultimately their choice.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf threatened a ceasefire, posting on Twitter that the “practical basis for negotiating” had already been violated, making further talks “inappropriate”.

Ghalibaf listed three alleged US violations of the ceasefire plan: continued attacks in Lebanon, entry of a drone into Iranian airspace, and denial of the country’s right to enrichment.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that it would “fulfill its duty and respond” if Israel did not stop its attacks. The Hezbollah terrorist group said it had the “right” to respond to Israeli attacks.

The US and Israel have claimed that the ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon. However, Iran said Israel’s attacks in Lebanon were a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

US Vice President J.D. Vance has said that Iran’s understanding of Lebanon’s inclusion in the Truth Agreement was the result of a “misunderstanding”.
